Sportivate is a programme that has been developed to capture the excitement of sport and the London 2012 Games to provide attractive and sustainable sporting opportunities to teenagers and young adults aged 14-25 yrs.
The Sportivate programme is part of the Play strand of Sport England's London 2012 mass participation legacy programme 'Places, People, Play'.
Sportivate will also contribute to wider agenda outcomes including impacting upon under represented groups, breaking down social barriers, attracting a range of additional funding/advocacy partners, tackling obesity and providing settings for skills development in education and community life (both through participating and volunteering).
The Aims:
The overall national aim fo Sportivate is to get 300,000 young people aged 14-25 playing sport regularly. In Cumbria the target will be 2,430 participants over the duration of the programme.
The programme will offer the participants opportunities to take part in 6/8 weeks of coaching /instructor led sessions of activity and transition them into regular and sustained participation.
Funding:
Active Cumbria has been allocated approximately £48,500 per year for the remaining three years to deliver Sportivate in Cumbria. Please refer to the website for application criteria and guidance.
Who:
Sportivate is a programme aimed at 14 to 25-year-olds (the key period during which people drop out of sport), which seeks to engage them in regular sports participation. With a particular focus on those who are not regularly participating in sport, the programme will offer six/eight week courses of high-quality coaching sessions.
At the end of the coaching, they will be supported into a local club or alternative community provider to continue their participation.
When:
Sportivate is a four year programme that commenced delivery in Cumbria in July 2011 and will run until March 2015.
Applications for proposed projects commencing delivery in year 2 from 1st April 2012 and ending before 31st March 2013 should be submitted by Friday 31st December 2011
